There are areas on the outskirts of Khayelitsha without infrastructure, i.e. there are no fixed roads, no sewage system, no regular electricity and water connections. In such an “informal settlement”, the building materials of the old Khumbulani center were used to build a kindergarten for 80 children from the Enkanini settlement.
This is operated by the team from the Khumbulani Center. At first, the Förderverein was reluctant due to the unclear legal situation. After the information from the city administration of Cape Town , that the infrastructure could be expanded in 5 years at the earliest, the Förderverein decided to help. We have built three rooms for 75 additional children from prefabricated concrete parts that can be easily dismantled and reused elsewhere. In addition, a playground donated by German sponsors was built.
